August 2009 > Day +187

Day +187

Nick has officially passed the six month mark. Just another hurdle in his long journey. On Friday, we went back down to Cincinnati for his six month check up. Dr. Davies is very pleased with his progress. He is doing well for the six month mark. Nick has to be one of the only kids who went thru the transplant, got out of the hospital in less than two month post transplant, and has not been back. Who says prayer does not work.

He had a bunch of blood work done. The results will not be complete until Monday. So assume that no news is good news if we don't post again on Monday or Tuesday.

Nick did contract a mild case of GVH. It is primarily on his face, arms, and legs. Dr. Davies is not to worried about it. They are treating it with topical lotions. The other set back he had was that Dr. Davies agreed with our doctor in Akron. He will not be able to attend school until at least 2010. Best case scenario is that the flu season is real mild, swine flu does not break out, and Nick continues to do well. If all those things happen, he may get to come back to school after the holidays.

On a final note, Annette, we sure hope you are feeling better. Sorry to hear you have been sick as of late. Our family would definitely like to meet you in person. We look forward to your inspirational blogs. Your words have motivated Nick and the rest of our family more than you know.

Well, lets hope that you don't hear from us for at least another week. (That would me that all the results came back good.) Day 180 (6 months) is gone, next huge hurdle is 1 year post transplant and cancer free. With a little luck and God's good grace, we will clear that hurdle without fail.

Dear Dan, Sandy, Nick, and Family; Today is day number 4 for me, post-op. I am feeling remarkably well, and am recovering nicely. The surgeon who performed my proceedure says all went very well. We await the pathology reports, which should come in the near future. Praying for an all clear from them with respect to any signs of cancer. It occurred to me that Nick has taught me an awful lot about standing strong in the face of frightening circumstances. Thanks, buddy, for the lessons!! And I just wanted to say that I continue to stand in prayer with you for complete and total healing from the CML, and from any residual affects it has had on your young body. I imagine that it sounds like a long time....waiting for 2010. I am just as sure that Nick will not only endure the test of time, but will come out a victor at the end of the struggle!! I continue to lift you all in my daily prayers, and to remember the other children in Cinci., and Lori, too!! Someone once told me that we couldn't be a testimony to the Lord if we had never faced a test. Nick; you are a living testimony to the love of our Lord, and to answered prayers! Praying for guardian angels to surround you, and the Lord's healing touch to strengthen you. Love in Christ, ~Annette

Dear Nick and Family; I just wanted to take a couple of minutes to share a praise report...and let you know that all pathology reports for my throat are free of cancer. God is Good....All The Time!! I also wanted to say that this lovely Fall day made me think of how close we are to the final word on Nick's one year report. I know that God is doing a Mighty work here. I know how much love He has for us, and how faithful He is to answer our prayers. Just wanted to send you all a verbal hug, and say that I continue to stand in prayer with you for a complete and total healing. Hang in there, Nick. There teally IS a shorter road to travel than the one you have already walked! Praying for the loving arms of our Lord to wrap themselves around you, and strengthen you. Love in Christ, ~Annette

Take a look at the days gone by. Its so crazy how much u have progressed. Look at the message about Nick in November to the progress to now. I really am shocked that we started with little hope and now the cancer is gone. I am so grateful that you are better and hopefully will be back in school atleast by after Christmas. Have a great labor day weekend!!!

Dear Dan, Sandy, Nick, and Family; Hope today found you all happy, healthy, and enjoying yourselves! Not a day goes by that I don't think of how special Nick is, and of how amazing I think it is that someone of his age has dealt with so much, and done it with such strength of character. Nick; I sure do hope that you are managing to do well with your home studies. I am amazed by how well you have done. I continue to ask the Lord to surround you with guardian angels, and to grant you a complete and total healing. I will continue to pray for all of you, and for those who are also struggling with fighting this disease. My thoughts and prayers are with you always.~Annette
